A weapon was found inside a student's vehicle on the high school campus earlier this morning. Law enforcement was contacted immediately and the student was taken off campus to further investigate. The weapon has been removed from the school site. At no time did the administration feel there was any real threat to the students or faculty at any of the campuses. Law enforcement also confirmed there is no threat and all students and staff are safe. Elmore City-Pernell administrators are cooperating with local law enforcement as they continue a precautionary investigation on this situation. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any concerns. I can be reached at 580-788-2565. As always, the safety of our students and employees remains our top priority. We had a lockout at the HS this morning. This is not a cause for concern and is a part of our operating procedure at ECPHS. The lockout merely kept students in class and delayed a class change while we conducted a sweep of the parking lot and school grounds using a K-9 officer. At the conclusion of the sweep, the lockout was lifted and the school returned to normal routine. The sweep is a part of a cooperative relationship between the Elmore City-Pernell School District and the Elmore City Police Department. The goal of this sweep is to search for illegal narcotics, weapons, or other contraband. Such sweeps are conducted at random and with very little advance notice. The safety and security of our students is a top priority. Internet and social media rumors of any other situation that may have occurred at the high school are false, misleading, and irresponsible and should be discounted.
